In a collaborative effort, the Treynor Parks and Trails Commission, together with the Treynor Splash Pad Committee, Dexter’s Dream Foundation, and Tristan’s Memorial Trailhead, has embarked on creating and constructing a safe, all-inclusive outdoor recreation area in Treynor, Iowa. This unique space invites children and adults of all ages, abilities, and sizes to come together, fostering connections and creating lasting memories.
What began as three local mothers working to establish a splash pad in Treynor evolved into a deeply meaningful initiative to develop a welcoming, inclusive, and judgment-free space for families. Wendy Andersen, a founding member and mother of three children, two of whom have special needs, envisioned an inclusive playground after seeing the possibilities firsthand during her travels. Joining her is Brooke Curtis, an educator with a passion for building inclusive communities, and Lisa White, who honors the memory of her son, lost five years ago in a tragic accident, through this effort. Together, they have come together to build a lasting legacy for the Treynor community.
The construction of Tristan’s Trailhead is already underway and is expected to be completed in the spring of 2025, while a one-mile walking trail has already been finished. The construction of the splash pad will commence in the spring of 2025, with fundraising efforts ongoing to bring the playground to life.
