Established in 1968, Family Housing Advisory Services (FHAS) improves housing opportunities and eliminates poverty. FHAS is dedicated to, and compassionate about, addressing housing issues. Over our 50-plus years of service, FHAS has prevented homelessness, or provided rental assistance and advocacy to over 31,000 persons, and distributed over $2 million in rent, utility, emergency hardship or other assistance. The Fair Housing Center of Nebraska and Iowa has investigated over 3,500 allegations of housing discrimination; assisted over 900 individuals with disabilities to obtain a reasonable accommodation; provided training to over 13K individuals and obtained over $3.1M in relief on behalf of clients. We have helped over 6,500 people with budgeting, credit and savings, including providing over 200 youth transitioning from foster care to adulthood with financial education, helping them save a cumulative $175K. The EITC has provided over 16K quality tax returns accessing over $5M in tax credits, lifting many above the poverty line. We have helped over 5,000 people learn about home ownership, with over 1,500 becoming home owners, over 200 avoiding foreclosure and nearly 900 elderly homeowners learning alternatives to foreclosure.
