The American Cancer Society is the leading cancer-fighting organization with a vision of ending cancer as we know it, for everyone. We are the only organization working to improve the lives of people with cancer and their families through advocacy, research, and patient support, to ensure everyone has an opportunity to prevent, detect, treat, and survive cancer.

While most people know us for our research, we do so much more. We work to end cancer as we know it, for everyone. The American Cancer Society is the largest funder of cancer research grants in the United States outside of the federal government, investing more than $5B over 75 years. We launch innovative, high-impact research to find more – and better – treatments, uncover factors that may cause cancer, and improve the quality of life for people facing cancer.

We advocate for lifesaving policy changes. American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network℠, ACS CAN, volunteers work to make sure our leaders take real steps toward finishing the fight against cancer. As the nonprofit, nonpartisan advocacy affiliate of the American Cancer Society, ACS CAN holds lawmakers accountable for their words and their actions. ACS CAN continues to advocate for access to critical health care at the federal, state, and local levels.

We provide information, answers, and support to people in every community who have been touched by cancer. And we do it all 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Getting the best care sometimes means cancer patients must travel away from home. This can place an extra emotional and financial burden on patients and caregivers during an already challenging time. The American Cancer Society is trying to make this difficult situation easier for both cancer patients and their families through our lodging programs. These communities provide comfortable guest suites with private baths, as well as inviting spaces with all the comforts of home, including a communal kitchen, dining area, laundry rooms, and places to gather or find a quiet respite – all at no cost to guests. Our Hope Lodge Nebraska provides a free home away from home for patients residing more than 40 miles away from their cancer treatment center. Hope Lodge guests don’t just find a place to stay – they find a community of support and an emotional connection with others facing the same journey.
