The cardiovascular and multispecialty sonography programs at NMC are looking for abdomen, vascular, and heart ultrasound volunteers! The ultrasounds are performed by first year NMC students under the supervision of a registered sonographer. Each session is one hour in length. With your help, students can practice their ultrasound skills. It’s extremely beneficial for our students to interact with volunteers and to scan individuals beyond their classmates. These ultrasound exams are for practice purposes only, no results will be given at these sessions.
All practice ultrasounds will be performed at Nebraska Methodist College. The sonography lab is located down the hill from main campus at 501 N. 87th Street. I have attached a map of the location. A student will meet you at the SOUTH locked entrance of the building (marked by the star on the map; door closest to Dodge St.).

Description of ultrasound exams:
1. Echocardiogram: an ultrasound exam that images the heart in various locations on the chest (center of the chest, left side under the left breast, and in the stomach looking up at the heart). Each volunteer will be asked to remove clothing from the waist up and put on a provided gown. The volunteer will remain covered at all times. The volunteer will be asked to lay on their left side and/or flat on their back for the exam.
2. Lower extremity arterial/venous ultrasound: an ultrasound that images the arteries or veins in the legs. The volunteer will be asked to bring or wear loose fitting shorts for the exam. The sonography student will begin to image high in the leg and scan down to the ankle. The volunteer will be covered with a sheet/blanket when not being imaged.
3. Carotid ultrasounds: an ultrasound that images the arteries in the neck. The volunteers will be asked to lay on their back and turn their head to left and right positions. The sonography student will image the neck region with varying positions.
4. Abdominal ultrasound: an ultrasound that images structure(s) such as: the abdomen, liver, pancreas, gallbladder, kidneys, and/or spleen. The volunteer will be asked to lay in various positions and to uncover their abdominal region allowing the student to image the abdominal region.
